Blogger Q&A

How can I use Blogger in my classes?
I can utilize Blogger in my classroom by having one as a resource for parents. This way parents can keep track of the information their child may have missed during class due to an absence. Also, it is a way to feature students for their accomplishments (Student of the Week, This Month's Birthday Stars!) as well as post any important information that is happening in the classroom, the school, and even in the school district.

What benefits are there to using this tool?
Some great benefits of using this tool are that it allows parents to stay connected in their student's education without being overbearing. It also allows parents and students to review what has been taught or what important information has been discussed during the school week. Having a classroom blog is another way for parents to receive important information just in case the information printed on a piece of paper sent home with each student does not make it off the school bus. I also feel like having pages that incorporate the students (Student of the Week) keeps students interested in visiting the class blog every week because they want to see if they are this week's featured student, which is an indirect way of getting parents to view the blog as well.

What are your thoughts of using this tool or other social networking tools in K-12 education?

Utilizing a Blogger or other social networking tools in K-12 education seems very beneficial. It is simply another method for students, teachers, and parents to maintain open communication throughout the academic year. If presented correctly in upper level grades, it could also be used to teach students how to run their own website and allow for another way for the students to remain active in their own education  aiding the teacher with classroom updates on the blog. It is a very useful tool for students to review what happened during the week or just to share with their family and friends the cool and creative lessons and activities that happen during their school day (including when they get the opportunity to be featured on the website/social networking website).
